Communities In Schools Announces Partnership with Grocery Retailer Ahold USA and Welcomes CFO Dan Sullivan to Board of Directors
Arlington, Va. (PRWEB) March 10, 2015 -- Communities In Schools(CIS), the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention organization and Ahold USA are announcing a new multi-year partnership to build healthier communities by helping young people across the country stay in school. Ahold USA supports four regional divisions - Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant Landover and Giant Carlisle - that together operate more than 770 supermarkets across the mid-Atlantic and New England.
The partnership, which involves a $900,000 investment by Ahold USA’s Our Family Foundation over 3 years, will increase the capacity of CIS affiliates in Lehigh Valley, Pa., Richmond, Va. and the District of Columbia to deliver wraparound services to students who come to school hungry or needing warm clothes, shoes or access to medical and dental care. By helping students in need eliminate these non-academic barriers to learning, Communities In Schools helps them stay in school, graduate and succeed in life.
Underscoring the two organizations’ shared commitment to change the picture of education in America, Communities In Schools also announced that Dan Sullivan, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Ahold USA, will join its board of directors.
“Through this partnership and the addition of Dan Sullivan to our board, Ahold USA is helping us build the type of strong communities needed to ensure at-risk kids are benefitting from good nutrition, good health and a good education,” said Debra Montanino, executive vice president of Communities In Schools.
“As part of our charitable mission to improve the lives of kids in our local communities, Ahold USA and our retail divisions are excited to partner with CIS to give students the resources they need to stay in school and thrive,” said Sullivan.
