Community Foundation Awards Record $15.9 Million in Grants
Appleton, WI (PRWEB) November 05, 2014 -- Releasing its 2014 Report to the Community, the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region announced that it awarded a record $15.9 million in grants during its fiscal year that ended June 30.
Grants were awarded to nearly 900 nonprofit organizations for the year, bringing the total in grant giving to $194 million since the Foundation was first established in 1986.
It was also the second-highest year on record for contributions with $31 million donated by 1,900 donors.
“We have seen an incredible year of charitable giving,” said Curt Detjen, president and CEO of the Foundation. “Our results for the fiscal year show that people are again giving at the level they had before the Great Recession hit in 2008.”
The number of grants awarded increased by nearly one-third, year over year, and contributions to charitable funds within the Foundation went up 44 percent. The Foundation reported that total assets also rose 27 percent to an all-time high of $290 million.
Detjen explained, “The records are meaningful, but the real significance is that the nonprofits who are improving our quality of life by providing services from basic needs to arts and culture are receiving more resources to continue their good work in our communities.” He added, “We have a stronger community as a result.”
Among the highlights in the 2014 Report to the Community, scholarships totaling $930,000 were awarded to 273 students from 118 different Foundation funds. The Foundation also announced its first mission-related investment with $5 million in bonds committed to the proposed Fox Cities Exhibition Center in Appleton.
