Community Foundation of Collier County Begins Countdown to First-Ever Giving Day – Give Where You Live 30
(PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- Flip to March on your 2015 calendar and mark the 3rd and 4th – those are the days designated for a Community Foundation of Collier County effort to give 30 Collier County non-profits a much-needed boost with your donations and a $300,000 matching donation from the Community Foundation of Collier County and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation.
Give Where You Live 30 Day is an on-line giving campaign designed to transform the way local residents think about – and contribute to – Collier County charities. Built upon the idea that everyone can be a philanthropist, the project affords individuals a simplified means of supporting the education and human services efforts of 30 non-profits through a 24-hour, online fundraiser.
“We cannot think of a better way to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Community Foundation of Collier County. With a simple click of a mouse, charitable givers who visit GiveWhereYouLive30.org on March 3 (starting at noon and ending at 11:59am on March 4) can contribute to one or all of the nonprofit(s) that are participating in this special - and very first – giving day in Collier County,” said Eileen Connolly-Keesler, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Collier County, the organizing agency for the event. She added: “No matter the size of your contribution, you can be a philanthropist who makes a difference in this community. Our job is to make it easy to participate in ‘Give Where You Live 30 Day’ so that everyone has the chance to make a positive change in the lives of thousands of people in our community.”
With a focus on making giving fun and easy, Give Where You Live 30 participants will use social, print and broadcast media, as well as word of mouth, to spread awareness about “giving where you live.” Participating nonprofits will be spotlighted in Community Foundation social media outlets in the weeks leading up to March 3rd to increase awareness about the ways in which they impact our community. The aim is to give each organization a voice and a face, thereby raising their community visibility. Give Where You Live 30 will culminate in a coordinated local “day of giving” effort, from noon on March 3 up to 11:59am on March 4 when donors click on GiveWhereYouLive30.org and donate from $10 to the sky’s-the-limit to any or all of the 30 nonprofits that have been chosen to participate. Each of these organizations has completed an in-depth profile in the Community Foundation’s NONPROFIT DIRECTORY at cfcollier.guidestar.com.
Mary Beth Geier, Florida region Coordinator for the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation – co-sponsor and generous matching donor for Give Where You Live 30 – explained the Schulze family’s interest in sponsoring this important event: “People are still hungry, still in need of clothing and shelter and other services. They are still in need of quality educational programs. We are happy to partner with the Community Foundation to raise awareness and keep these ongoing needs in the forefront of people's minds. Perhaps this one day of giving will serve as a reminder that supporting area non-profits should be a year-round commitment.”
