Community Foundation Releases “Milly’s Dream Kitchen,” the Second Video in the Good Works Series
Penn Yan, NY (PRWEB) December 15, 2015 -- Today, Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes released the second video in a four-part series called “Good Works.” This video, Milly’s Dream Kitchen, features Milly’s Pantry, a nonprofit organization in Penn Yan, NY that aims to support disadvantaged children by addressing issues of food insecurity and academic readiness.
The inspiration for Milly’s Pantry came from the leadership and service of Milly Bloomquist, a community volunteer who established numerous programs and countless opportunities for poor and underserved children in Upstate New York’s Yates County. Milly was awarded the 2011 Presidential Citizen’s Medal from President Barack Obama in 2011 for her lifetime of service, and organizers say her memory lives on in the mission and vision of Milly’s Pantry.
“Anyone can make a big impact when they see a problem and take a step towards fixing it,” said Randi Hewit, President of Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes. “Milly was a perfect example of one person’s drive to make the world a better place for so many others, and that’s what we want to show in this Good Works video.”
Milly’s Dream Kitchen is the second in the four-part video series from the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes. The first was released last week and can be seen on the campaign landing page at http://www.communityfund.org/good-works. A total of four organizations will eventually be featured from around a four-county region in Upstate New York. The next video featuring TLC TNR, a nonprofit organization aimed at safely controlling the cat population, comes out on Thursday, December 17. The final video will be released on Wednesday, December 23, and will highlight the KRAMER Foundation for therapy and rehab dogs.
“Our vision is for the community to come together around these stories and acknowledge the efforts of their neighbors who are improving the region in unique ways,” said Hewit. “We hope to inspire more people to take action in small ways and watch their impact grow exponentially.”
