Community Properties Announces Name and Identity for New Downtown Raleigh Community
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) August 25, 2015 -- Raleigh developer Community Properties, Inc., has the rare opportunity to repurpose 7.5 acres in an existing downtown Raleigh community near Mordecai and the North Person Street business district. Last night Community Properties president, Jack Morisey, met with neighbors and the Mordecai CAC to unveil some of the new home plans and new community name – Oakdale at Mordecai.
The name Oakdale comes from a map of Raleigh dated 1914 found in the North Carolina Historical Archives at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is the original neighborhood name of several streets that sit between historic Mordecai and historic Oakwood, which includes Sasser Street where these new homes will be built. Wanting to embrace and honor its history, Morisey and the team decided to revive the name.
“Our goal is to enrich and support growth in the diverse Mordecai and North Person Street community through development of Oakdale at Mordecai,” says Morisey. “We appreciate the sense of community that was established long ago and remains today. We love that this is a community where neighbors can walk or ride their bikes to share a meal or cup of coffee at one of many locally-owned restaurants and shops. With the addition of a locally-owned neighborhood market on Person Street next to the Raleigh City Farm, our neighbors have everything they need right around the corner – groceries, entertainment, clothing, a vet, and pharmacy.”
Generations-old and locally-owned Raleigh companies, Community Properties Inc., Fonville Morisey Barefoot (FMB) and Robuck Homes, are working together to offer buyers new homes specifically designed for Oakdale at Mordecai. The goal is to design and craft timeless homes that embrace the character of the existing community. Each of the approximately 58 new homes will be built by Robuck and sold by FMB.
Sales and construction of the new homes will begin soon, with the first homes being complete in early 2016. For more information regarding the Oakdale community at Mordecai, please call 919-926-5549 or visit OakdaleRaleighNC.com.
