Community Sailing Center and Dealer.com Unveil Expanded Floating Gallery at Love Your Lake Event
Burlington, VT (PRWEB) June 21, 2016 -- This evening, as the sun begins to set on the shores of Lake Champlain, the Community Sailing Center (CSC), in partnership with Dealer.com, will reveal six new pieces from the SailArt Floating Gallery during the Love Your Lake event. The Floating Gallery is a collection of artwork fusing public art and landscape on fully functional sails. This public event is a celebration of Burlington’s front yard and the lake-based community in which the CSC resides, and is part of the organization’s ongoing mission to create lake access for all.
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Dealer.com and expand the SailArt Floating Gallery initiative,” said Mark Naud, Executive Director at the Community Sailing Center. “This year’s event not only embodies our local arts scene, it also captures the cultural diversity and unique spirit of the Burlington waterfront community. The lake is meant for everyone to enjoy and this event is just one way we can help people connect with and love their lake.”
Now in its second year, the SailArt Floating Gallery has expanded thanks to the ongoing support of Dealer.com and includes the work of six local artists:
• Sarah-Lee Terrat’s “Edna The Barred Rock”
• Max Hodgson’s “A Weightless Afternoon”
• Tara Goreau’s Forbidden Luff”
• Jozie Furchgott Sourdiffe’s “Without a Net”
• Nick Heilig’s “Sea Legs”
• Matt Douglas’ “Guppy Love”.
The sails will be on display on the CSC’s fleet of Zims, which are most commonly used for the Center’s youth programs. The art sails will integrate nicely into the CSC’s educational programming to enhance the overall out-of-classroom experience.
In addition to the sail unveiling, the Love Your Lake event will also feature music from Lakou Mizik, a Haitian band that emerged from the devastation of the Haiti earthquake to spread a message of hope through music, and a special appearance by DJ Tet Fret. The ArtsRiot food trucks, Zero Gravity Beer, and Fork in the Road, a mission-based food truck program through the Burlington School Food Project, will provide local food and beer. The Love Your Lake event also marks the kick-off of the Community Sailing Center’s $1 million public fundraising campaign to develop a world-class waterfront campus and sailing education center on Burlington’s waterfront.
Dealer.com, a strong supporter of the local arts community, has created several grants over the past few years, fusing art with a functional need for its non-profit partners. As a long-time supporter of the Community Sailing Center and its Floating Classroom Program, Jill Badolato, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, concepted the first-of-its-kind Floating Gallery grant in 2015 as a way to give back to the waterfront community on a multi-faceted front. Dealer.com’s P.E.A.C.E. Mission (Planet, Eat Local, Arts & Culture and Employees) represents the company’s unique approach to being a good corporate citizen.
“Last year’s event was all about the art,” said Badolato. “This year, we wanted to find a way to bring together all of the different cultural aspects of the Burlington community which include food, music, arts, and the CSC’s lake-based programs. This Love Your Lake event is a true representation of all of the amazing dynamics that make up the waterfront community and we’re thrilled to be a part of it all and to support the CSC’s mission.”
