Community unites to serve others during Hands4Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama (PRWEB) October 06, 2016 -- A day of hard work will also be a day of caring for neighbors as volunteers serve the community on Sunday, October 16. Hands4Huntsville, sponsored by Monte Sano United Methodist Church, will incorporate eleven service projects that fulfill a wide-range of needs across the area.
“This event is a good way to step out of being ‘in’ church and to ‘be’ church for a day,” said Scott Williams, chair of Hands4Huntsville. “With the diversity of projects selected, we hope that it will bring some comfort to the underserved both in this community and far away, and let them know that there are people who love them and care about them.”
The event begins at 9:00 a.m. with a worship service at Monte Sano United Methodist Church, located at 601 Monte Sano Blvd. in Huntsville. Volunteer groups will then gather to learn details about their projects before heading to the various worksites.
The community is welcome to participate in the family friendly event. There is no cost associated with any of the projects, and most will conclude by mid-day.
Volunteers can learn more and register for the diverse service opportunities at Hands4Huntsville.org, which include:
• Packing 10,000 meals to be distributed throughout the world via Stop Hunger Now
• Repair, building, maintenance and cleaning projects at area homes, Monte Sano State Park, New Futures Family Shelter and Happy Trails Therapeutic Riding Center
• Assembling health kits that will be used in times of natural disaster
• Serving a meal and playing games with residents of a home for individuals with disabilities
• Writing notes of encouragement to people in need of a positive message
• Sorting items for a local church’s thrift store
There will be a post-event celebration on Sunday, October 23, at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. at Monte Sano United Methodist Church. Volunteers will convene to pray, share about their Hands4Huntsville experience and reflect on its impact in the community.
Hands4Huntsville is funded in part by an event grant from United Methodist Communications’ Rethink Church initiative as a way to help local United Methodist churches in their efforts to join with their communities to make a difference in the world. All volunteers are welcome and do not have to be affiliated with The United Methodist Church – or any church – to participate.
