Competition Empowers California College Students to Make Positive Change While Practicing their Craft
Los Angeles, Ca (PRWEB) January 24, 2014 -- California film/television, journalism and social media students have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes while doing social good: the Generation Next competition is accepting submissions through February 14, 2014.
The competition produced by the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC), through their TEAM up (Tools for Entertainment and Media) program, offers opportunities for television/film, journalism and social media to play leading roles in changing the way people view mental health. The purpose of this competition is to empower the next generation of content creators to use the power and influence of media to promote accurate and authentic portrayals of mental health in storytelling, news reporting and social media campaigns, by recognizing their immense talent.
“This competition recognizes that today’s generation of students are tomorrow’s industry leaders. These innovative journalists and artists have the tools to change the way we view mental health, rather than exaggerated reporting on mental health issues, especially with coverage of high profile acts of violence, we can break down stereotypes with accurate portrayals of mental health issues” said Marie Gallo Dyak, Executive Vice President, Program Services and Government Relations, EIC.
Twelve semi-finalists will be mentored by entertainment, journalism, and social media professionals, as well as mental health experts. Three winners – one from each of the three categories (film and television, journalism and social media) – will be rewarded with $4,000 cash prizes and will receive recognition at the 2014 PRISM Awards Ceremony. In addition to this, winners will have their student productions aired on EICnetwork.tv, a global internet television network, and have the opportunity to take part in a collaborative program with Active Minds, a mental health organization led by college students.
Generation Next, a program of the EIC, is facilitated by TEAM Up and supported by the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA), an organization of county governments working to improve mental health among Californians.
