CompuHigh Online High School Holds Annual Faculty Symposium
(PRWEB) October 25, 2013 -- CompuHigh online high school held its annual faculty symposium this past weekend. Teachers and support staff met in Morgantown, WV to share lunch and collaborate on mastery online teaching strategies. Teachers and staff shared their passion for teaching and their dedication to providing a truly alternative educational option for students and their families.
After opening activities and a review of CompuHigh news, teachers began the meeting with a discussion of CompuHigh’s mission statement. Teachers emphasized that CompuHigh’s one-to-one student teacher interaction is among the most significant differences that makes their teaching at CompuHigh highly effective. Teachers stated that interacting with one student at a time ensures that no student falls through the cracks without mastering the course material. They shared stories of students who started off at CompuHigh with difficulties, but who eventually showed impressive growth both in their academic skills and in their confidence.
During the meeting, teachers reviewed new proprietary software features provided by CompuHigh. Teachers brainstormed about ways to use these features to increase student engagement and to build greater collaboration among teachers for the benefit of student learning.
Jeannette Geib, CompuHigh’s Educational Director, reviewed AdvancED accreditation standards with the teachers, including standards regarding professional development and collaborative learning communities. Teachers were engaged in brainstorming about the strategies and policies that would make these activities most effective for CompuHigh.
“Teachers reported that they came away from the meeting feeling energized about CompuHigh’s mission and the unique way we approach learning,” said Geib. “Our teachers are passionate about education and really care about their students. They are a treasure trove of ideas and creativity. This symposium drove that fact home for me, but also for each of them. I think this meeting helped them realize what a resource they have in each other.”
