New Haven, CT (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 -- The video which apparently is uploaded by one of Oliver Taeb’s students shows the professor discussing the Mental Status Exam of John Boehner, Speaker of the House during one of his speeches.
Professor Taeb calls Boehner “culturally schizophrenic” and “mentally challenged” when it comes to immigrants. He blasts Boehner for being clueless in connecting with minorities and women. Taeb, having also taught as a professor at Fairfield University a liberal Jesuit institution, questions the Republican Party as a viable political party in the coming decades. He notes the Republican Party’s lack of diversity and declining numbers.
Some say the lectures go too far emphasizing what might be considered stereotyping and not educational.
One section of the video describes some Republicans as Boehner most often too timid to peer around the bend to even say hello to their black or Latino neighbors, afraid of being jumped. Taeb identifies those certain Republicans as “culturally schizophrenic.”
In a written statement, Professor Oliver Taeb defended his lectures, saying, “My lectures ask the students to form their own opinions. It pushes the boundaries of life and it touches cultural issues rarely discussed from a psychological perspective. This is not about Republicans, Democrats, Independents. This is about humanity. These are truths that need to be discussed, regardless of anyone’s political affiliations in a psychology class.”
Taeb is also well known for his non wavering support of equal rights for women and the LGBT community. He acknowledges that some of his lectures received criticism in the past.
“The issues I raised about women’s rights, gays, lesbians and minorities are all valid points, particularly for students going to become future psychologists and psychotherapists. They need to be mentally ready to get into this profession. My goal is to expand their minds and for them to decide for themselves about the unsettling truths they face each day. You have to be able to become an effective psychologist and a therapist for a gay or a non-documented immigrant with no prejudice, implicit or explicit.”
Professor Oliver Taeb is a successful practicing family, couples and individual therapist in Torrington, Connecticut. He can be reached via email at OliverTaeb(at)gmail(dot)com and by phone: 860 618 5910.
