Connecticut Transit Selects Doosan PureCell System to Power Hamden Hub with Clean Energy
South Windsor, Conn (PRWEB) June 16, 2015 -- Doosan Fuel Cell (Doosan) announced today that a PureCell® Model 400 fuel cell was selected by Connecticut Transit (CTtransit) to provide clean, on-site energy at its Hamden, Connecticut maintenance and storage facility. This will be the second Doosan fuel cell system to be utilized by the Connecticut Department of Transportation-owned bus service and is set to be installed later in the year.
The initial Doosan fuel cell, which went live August 2012 at the CTtransit Hartford facility, supplies 400 kilowatts (kW) of clean energy -- an annual reduction of CO2 and NOx that equates to planting 127 acres of trees and removing 60 cars from the road. The second Doosan fuel cell will also supply electricity, heat and hot water to the Hamden facility, which serves as a base of operations for 135 buses on 22 routes that serve 17 cities and towns in the greater New Haven area. The facility also houses full-service maintenance shops and administrative and operations offices.

The Doosan-CTtransit project is funded, in part, by the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) Program, a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) project initiated in 2009 to provide grants to public transportation agencies seeking to shrink greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption.
