ConstructConnect, The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Hanley Wood Media Collaborated with Design Teams to “Blitz Build” Women’s Shelter
Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) June 06, 2017 -- ConstructConnect, a leading provider of construction information and technology in North America, partnered with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Hanley Wood Media and industry volunteers to revitalize the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida’s CWF as part of AEC Cares’ seventh-annual “blitz build.”
“Together with the AIA and Hanley Wood, ConstructConnect makes AEC Cares bigger and better every year,” said Laura Marlow ConstructConnect vice president of strategic partnerships and AEC Cares executive director. “On April 26, 2017, over 125 volunteers, architects, engineers, contractors, and product manufacturers came together to perform some magic.”
Affectionately known as “projectOrlando,” the revitalization project, was valued at over $350,000, and included numerous donated materials and volunteer time. Volunteers participated in refurbishing the CFW’s family dormitory hallways, and upgraded the center’s lobby and family room. In addition, the project’s design team contributed over 500 hours towards the planning and design of the CFW renovation.
“We helped to improve the lives of the men, women and children temporarily living at the Coalition for the Homeless by renovating their facility,” said Marlow. “With new paint, new flooring, new ceiling tiles, new wall covering, new artwork and more, we were able to leave Orlando a little better than we found it.”
With the help of over 25 corporate sponsors including USG, YKK AP, On Center Software, The Vinyl Institute, Kawneer Alcoa, ProEst, and Panolam, AEC Cares’ volunteers completed projectOrlando on time using a record amount of building products:
- 400 square feet – ceiling tile
- 200 square feet – carpet tile
- 50 gallons – paint
- 3,000 square feet – flooring
- 5,487.5 square feet – wall protection
“We are honored and very grateful for the work that AEC Cares did to renovate the Center for Women and Families,” says John E. Hearn, President/CEO of the Coalition. “The updated and welcoming atmosphere will provide hope to the hundreds of families who walk through our doors each year.”
For the past seven years, during AEC Cares’ annual build, ConstructConnect, AIA and Hanley Wood Media have joined forces one day prior to the AIA National Convention to raise awareness and provide community support for worthwhile projects across the United States. Beginning in 2011, these groups collaborated to rebuild five homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Subsequent projects included revitalizing houses for homeless teens in Washington D.C. and refurbishing facilities for homeless, disabled veterans and adults in Denver. In 2015 a project revitalized an inner-city Atlanta shelter for youths in crisis. AEC Cares’ most recent project renovated an inner-city Philadelphia athletic recreation center.
