Construction Industry Council President Ross J. Pepe Comments on Gov. Cuomo’s Announcement of $34 million in Grants for Vital Water Infrastructure Improvements
TARRYTOWN, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2017 -- Ross J. Pepe, president of the Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc. and the Building Contractors Association of Westchester & Mid-Hudson Region, Inc. has issued the following statement regarding Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s announcement of $34 million in grants for clean water infrastructure and water quality protection: “Clean Water grants announced on Oct. 5 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo under New York State’s Clean Water program are a huge step forward for Westchester and Mid-Hudson Valley’s environment and economy,” said Mr. Pepe.
On Oct. 5, Gov. Cuomo announced nearly $34 million in grants to support 24 essential drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the Mid-Hudson Valley. These grants are part of a $255 million statewide investment, funded through New York's Water Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2017.
Mr. Pepe noted that a survey conducted last year by the CIC, entitled “Clean Water Infrastructure Needs for Communities in Westchester and the Hudson Valley,” identified many of the same projects that received funding in this round of grant awards this week.
“The report estimated a total of more than $1 billion needed to make capital improvements to wastewater and drinking water facilities in the region over next two decades,” Mr. Pepe added. “While our clean water infrastructure needs are still significant, this historic funding program is a giant step forward for communities on both sides of the Hudson River. It is investing in projects ready to go, and these projects will create 2,000 good-paying, skilled jobs.”
“The program is authorized for another four years and we stand ready with our Clean Water/Jobs Coalition partners of employers, conservationists and organized labor to continue to support it and its successes,” Mr. Pepe concluded.
