Contempop Gallery hosts Inaugural show HOMAGE in New York - A tribute to the Great Masters of Art
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 25, 2016 -- Contempop Gallery plays with the concept of adaptation with its most experimental artists in the medium of installation, sculpture and photography in its inaugural pop up -- HOMAGE -- on February 4th at 6pm in New York City's posh Tribeca district.
Homage as it is defined (/ˈhɒmɨdʒ/ or /ˈɒmɨdʒ/) is a show or demonstration of respect or dedication to someone or something, sometimes by simple declaration but often by some more oblique reference, artistic or poetic. The term is often used in the arts for where one author or artist shows respect to another by allusion or imitation; this is often treated and pronounced as the French hommage.[1]
The exhibition consists of 8 emerging and mid career artists from around the world (Belgium, Germany, Israel, Colombia, USA, Venezuela) paying tribute the great masters of modern and contemporary artists such as Magritte, Klimt, Basquiat, Kusama, Wool and Vitali to name a few.
While some works were intentionally made for the exhibit, others are re-interpretations of what the artist perceived the original meant to say. The result is a voyage for the viewer.
Nicole Furman for instance, takes real people, paints on them, creates a background installation and takes an image of the scene.
Another example is the work of aerial photographer Klaus Leidorf who had not originally intended to pay homage to Massimo Vitaly, but was very much influenced by his perspective. The final rendering is reminiscent of Vitaly's work.
The concept, says Roy Seifert, founder of Contempop Gallery, was to first pay tribute to some of the most important artists of the 20'th century and to explore the different views in how contemporary artists translate the original works of masters into their own.
The exhibition will consist of different mediums as photography, sculpture and paintings and will be exhibited at Contempop Gallery launching February 4th, 2016 through to the 25th at 93 Worth Street in New York City.
