Controversial Service Offers Nationwide Shooting Lessons
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 27, 2014 -- A company just launched a nationwide service to teach shooting in backyards and local gun ranges. The site helps connect beginner shooters to a certified instructor in their area. The site will launch in over 2,100 towns across the United States and primarily focus on rural areas. The service has stirred some controversy with companies and gun-control lobby.
Some may consider Backyard Shooting Lessons (http://www.shootinglessons.info) to be a dangerous concept, but the company has a strict policy of only offering lessons on lots of 10 acres or more. The website states, all lots must be inspected to provide a bunker to stop bullets from traveling off property and abide by all local laws.
The company states that their name only implies that the lessons may be offered locally. In cities, and where a safe spot cannot be found, Backyard Shooting Lessons has partnered with several gun ranges.
Some haven't taken their concept too well. A major PR company who worked with Lesson Pro to market many of their services refused to publish any news about the shooting company. They have also received a fair amount of hate-mail from gun-control supporters.
Despite the hate mail, they have had over 1,000 gun enthusiasts sign up and pass a training exam to teach. The instructors offer training in a variety of types of guns and lesson plans for groups, individuals, and families.
Shooting education has been long-dominated by ranges. However, not everyone has a range nearby. The site helps those in remote areas by teaching them near their home. The National Rifle Association (NRA) has been one of the few reputable agencies to certify shooting instructors. The NRA also sponsors free family shooting events nationwide. Their trainers will teach safe use of guns-often for free.
ShootingLessons.info is being launched by Lesson Pro LLC. A company featured this year at the Empact Showcase in the United Nations. Lesson Pro has provided over 20,000 lessons through 10 web properties which feature private instruction marketplaces.
The owner, Rob Dunfey, says purpose of the site is “to make shooting lessons more affordable and accessible.” He continues, “I strongly believe that we have the moral obligation to teach our families how to defend themselves."
When asked about pricing, Dunfey says, “The pricing depends on the geography. You will find lessons from $50 per session in Ramona, California and from $30 per session outside Dothan, Alabama.” Discounts will be offered to those who buy “packages” of lessons.
So how does this site work? The instructors sign up, pass a certification exam, set their rates and availability and then are listed on the website for student’s to pick their favorite teacher. All instructors are trained and given a customized syllabus to instruct their students. Other lessons are customized to meet an individual needs the student is looking for.
Director of services, Tom Martin, says, he doesn't anticipate the hate mail to stop. "We're encouraging safe gun usage on a large scale. Certainly, that makes us an easy target. However, we're not going to let that stop our progress."
