Houston (PRWEB) January 31, 2017 -- Results from EnergyPoint Research’s recently completed 2016 Oilfield Products & Services Customer Satisfaction Survey indicate customers continue to recognize high-quality suppliers as they navigate one of the most challenging markets in a generation.
“For oilfield suppliers, the past 18 months have been about surviving a virulent downturn with no end in sight. For some, this simply meant cutting costs and riding out the storm. For others, it has required more drastic actions, ranging from full recapitalizations to company sales,” said Doug Sheridan, managing director of EnergyPoint Research. “Nevertheless, what has emerged is a supplier base that is shaken, but not broken—even as customers seek increased performance and value in a still-testing market.”
Top overall ratings were awarded to the following companies in each of the four upstream oil and gas segments covered in the survey: reservoir and production specialist Core Laboratories in oilfield services; solids-control equipment manufacturer Derrick Equipment in oilfield products; Helmerich & Payne in onshore contract drilling, and; Ensco plc in offshore contract drilling.
Oilfield Services Segment
Core Laboratories ranked as the top-rated oilfield services provider for the second consecutive year. The company also rated first in several additional categories, including formation and well evaluation, job quality, performance and reliability, onshore applications, core and fluids analysis, Middle East & North Africa, Asia & Pacific Rim, and six other categories.

Long-time leader Ensco rated first overall in the survey’s offshore drilling segment. In addition to taking top honors in total satisfaction, the company rated first in safety and environmental (HSE), performance and reliability, job quality, shelf wells, deepwater wells, Middle East & North Africa, Latin America & Mexico, special applications, and three other categories.
Other contractors rating first in at least one category within the offshore drilling segment of the survey include:
• Atwood Oceanics in the Gulf of Mexico;
• KCA Deutag in North Sea;
• Rowan Drilling in high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) wells;
• Seadrill in Asia & Pacific Rim, and harsh environment wells, and;
• Transocean in technology.
Onshore Drilling Segment
Helmerich & Payne again rated first in total satisfaction among onshore contract drillers. The company also captured the top spot in performance and reliability, service and professionalism, horizontal and directional wells, high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) wells, safety and environmental (HSE), shale-oriented applications, Interior Texas & Mid-continent, and three additional categories.
Other companies rating first in various categories of the onshore contract drilling segment include:
• Ensign Energy Services in Canada;
• KCA Deutag in harsh environment applications;
• Pioneer Energy Services in job quality, and;
• Precision Drilling in U.S. Rockies & Dakotas.

Survey Information
EnergyPoint’s closely followed oilfield product and services survey, which has been conducted annually since 2003, is the only study of its kind focused on the oil and gas industry’s satisfaction with major upstream oilfield suppliers. As part of the survey process, qualified respondents evaluate suppliers in four segments: oilfield services, oilfield products, onshore contract drilling, and offshore contract drilling.
For the survey, suppliers were evaluated in various areas such as total satisfaction, pricing and contract terms, performance and reliability, technology, engineering and design, job quality, safety and environmental, service and professionalism, post-sale support and corporate capabilities. Additionally, suppliers were evaluated across multiple product and service segments, well types and applications, and domestic and international regions.
For those categories and suppliers in which ratings existed, scores from the 2013-2014 survey period were included in this year's category-winner calculations at lesser weightings than for the 2015-2016 period. In no case were 2013-2014 ratings assigned a weighting of more than 20 percent for purposes of calculating final category winners.
A total of 73 suppliers received the minimum number of evaluations needed to be considered for this year’s final rankings. This represents one of the largest pools of respondents and suppliers ever for an EnergyPoint survey, as the firm sought to maintain an expanded number of suppliers and industry categories for which ratings are collected and published despite the industry slowdown.
