Core Spaces Launches Acquisition Platform
CHICAGO (PRWEB) September 28, 2015 -- Core Spaces, a Chicago-based real estate development and management firm known for raising the bar for student housing style and sophistication, recently welcomed industry expert Brian Thompson to the newly created position of Director of Acquisitions.
Mr. Thompson, an influential student housing sector pioneer who brings 14 years of high-level experience with Harrison Street Real Estate Capital and GMH Communities Trust, now leads Core Space’s new acquisitions platform. He joined the company on Sept. 14 and is based in Chicago.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better leader for our new acquisitions platform than Brian Thompson,” says Marc Lifshin, Core Spaces Founder and Managing Partner. “During the past 14 years, Brian has been instrumental in shaping the dramatic transformation of student housing development and delivery.
“Launching an acquisitions platform was the next logical step for our company’s growth and vertical integration in the education-related real estate market. So adding Brian to our already strong team is a massive win for Core Spaces.”
“I am excited to spearhead this next exciting phase of growth with Core Spaces,” Mr. Thompson says. “We plan to add a wide range of complementary assets to our portfolio – not only on- and off-campus student housing, but also potentially campus hotels, infrastructure and other education-related real estate.”
While with Harrison Street, Mr. Thompson was a Senior Vice President and head of acquisitions for the firm’s education platform, sourcing and closing more than $4.5 billion in education-centric real estate transactions, including the development and acquisition of about 60,000 student housing beds. Prior to that, during his seven years with GMH, he was involved in nearly $2 billion in student housing-related transactions.
A frequent speaker and contributor to industry-related events, Mr. Thompson was named a Student Housing Pioneer by Globe Street’s Real Estate Forum for his efforts in establishing the modern student housing sector.
