Cory Walker, of Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts Academy, Wins 2013 World Championships
Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) July 05, 2013 -- The International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) is the sports largest, most prestigious organization, hosting the World Championships every year in Long Beach, CA. This year, over 600 athletes from all over the World, from white to black belt, came to test their skills. Lloyd Irvin, head coach and owner of Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy, sent over 20 athletes to the Worlds earlier this month.
Of all the athletes representing Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy, Cory Walker stood out as the star competitor and sole Champion from the Camp Springs location. (Other Champions include Tye Ryan, purple belt, and Devon Delbrugge, blue belt, both from Lloyd Irvin affiliate Crazy 88) Cory Walker, 19, has been training brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) for over 6 years under head coach Lloyd Irvin and assistant coach Donald Achnick.
Cory fought in the blue belt male rooster-weight division and with over 50 competitors registered in the division, he needed 5 matches to win the Gold.
Cory finished 3 fights with his infamous triangle choke.
The finals Cory faced fellow Team Lloyd Irvin member, Chris Tran. As a team, it was decided that no one would coach the match, and let the two fight it out to determine the Champion. Both men have trained together all season, battling back and forth in training.
The match was an exciting battle, Cory was up early, winning on points, but Chris Tran could not make up the differential in time.
Lloyd Irvin was more than happy to have two of his fighters reach the final, and promoted both men to purple belt soon just last week. Cory Walker is an instructor at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy, and native of Maryland.
