Costa Rican Resort Supports Local Fiestas
(PRWEB) February 27, 2015 -- Tulemar Resort, located in the Manuel Antonio and Quepos area of Costa Rica, was thrilled to see the Fiestas de Quepos of 2015 kick off this past week. The Fiestas de Quepos are an annual week long gathering of the town in order to raise money for civic causes and celebrate all things Costa Rican with one another. The resort, which offers luxury vacation rentals, was proud to celebrate and support the annual cause to raise money for its surrounding community. The money raised by the Fiestas goes towards private and public charities that support social welfare in the community.
To raise that money and bring about the “fiesta,” the town hosts an array of events throughout the week. There are youth soccer tournaments and a cycling race during the days, and at night there is always a festival that is held. The festival offers local vendors a place sell their merchandise, and many classic carnival rides for the kids, including bumper cars, a merry-go-round, and a ferris wheel. On Saturday of the Fiestas, just as the sun sets, a parade takes place in the streets of Quepos. The sidewalks crowd with excited spectators, while extravagant floats make their way through the streets.
The highlight of the Fiestas de Quepos, however, is the end of every night, when the Corrida de Toros or—The Running of the Bulls—takes place. The Corrida de Toros, caps the events of the festival every day, and gives people a chance to enter the ring and run with bulls. The event is filled with excitement, as a bull launches out of the gates with a brave soul on his back trying to hold on for dear life, while others run around trying to avoid the bull's rage. The surrounding crowd in the stands is always full of gasps and cheers as the unpredictable unfolds. After the last bull runs, people dance and sing karaoke into the night.
Mari Borge, a concierge at Tulemar and local of the Manuel Antonio and Quepos area, reflected on the Fiestas de Quepos and what they have meant to her throughout her time being raised in the area, saying, “Growing up in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area, the Fiestas always were something I looked forward to. I remember having so much fun every year as a kid. However, now that I'm older and understand how much these fun times do to raise money for the community, I find myself even more appreciative of The Fiestas.”
The authentic Costa Rican experience is open to the public, and enjoyed by many of the guests of Tulemar and the area. Dave Houck, a spokesperson for Tulemar Resort commented, “The locals are always so excited to share this event with our guests, making it one of the more unique experiences of immersion into the Costa Rican culture. It’s always so cool to see visitors and locals alike sprinkled throughout the crowds, cheering at the Corridas de Toros, and dancing and singing with one another at the end of night. The Fiestas truly bring together everyone for a great time for a great cause.”
