CourtRecords.us.org to Purge Newly Sealed Records
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- CourtRecords.us.org is starting a program to purge court records from their system once they have been sealed by the court, the company said yesterday.
“We have to walk a fine line when it comes to public documents,” a CourtRecords.us.us.org spokesman said. “Nearly all court records are public, but sometimes become sealed or waived by the judge after they have entered the system. We want to be fair to people and give out as much information as we can while also respecting the wishes of the judicial system.”
More often than not, when charges are dismissed or sealed it is part of an agreement between the defendant and the judge, the CourtRecords.us.org spokesman said.
“If someone makes a one-time mistake, the court will often agree to dismiss and seal all charges if the person goes through a period of court-ordered activities,” he said. “The judge then agrees to seal the charges so they don't follow the person around for the rest of their lives. We want to protect the judge's intent when he or she makes that type of ruling.”
CourtRecords.us.org will monitor notices of sealed records and delete them from their database as soon as they are notified about them, he said.
“If a judge is convinced that these records should no longer be public, that's good enough for us,” he said. “We want to be as fair as possible and respect the way the system works.”
