Craig Newmark Joins Swords to Plowshares’ Advisory Board
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2015 -- Internet entrepreneur Craig Newmark, best known as the founder of Craigslist, has joined the Advisory Board of Swords to Plowshares, a leading veteran service organization in the Bay Area.
An active veteran proponent, Newmark previously has been involved with the San Francisco Veterans Success Center and the Veterans Educational Transitional Services Lounge at City College of San Francisco. He also provides financial support for various fundraising initiatives geared toward veterans.
“If someone’s willing to risk taking a bullet for me, I should help out a little, and I realize that their families also serve,” Newmark said.
Swords to Plowshares Executive Director Michael Blecker said that Newmark brings expertise in technology, community service, and veteran issues.
“We’re excited to have Craig with us. He’s already been an ardent supporter of our organization over the years, and now he now joins us in an official capacity with the shared goal of ensuring that veterans are set up for success after their military service,” Blecker said. “His guidance will improve our ability to utilize supportive technologies and help veterans work toward better outcomes—a critical need for any nonprofit.”
