Crain's Names Open Data Group's Founder and Chief Data Scientist, Bob Grossman, to Chicago Tech50

Having spent the last 20 years in both industry and academic positions, Bob has expanded the application of data science in many ways. As a founder of Open Data Group, Bob is revolutionizing the way companies deploy their analytic models and develop their data infrastructure. In doing so, Bob has identified and defined the role and responsibilities of “AnalyticOps”, a new core competency that allows enterprises to efficiently monetize their data science investments.
Bob is also part of the University of Chicago’s faculty, serving as the Director of the Center for Data Intensive Science where he recently launched the Genomic Data Commons, which is part of Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot. Bob is also a Core Faculty and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Genomics and Systems Biology (IGSB) and at the Computation Institute. His research group focuses on data science, big data, bioinformatics, cloud computing and related areas.
