CREATe.org Launches eBook: ‘Safeguarding Trade Secrets and Mitigating Threats’
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 14, 2016 -- CREATe.org has launched a new eBook: ‘Safeguarding Trade Secrets and Mitigating Threats.’ The book aims to help companies understand how to protect trade secrets and critical business information from cyberattacks, insiders and other threats.
The eBook features a five-step framework to help companies assess and safeguard trade secrets. It also offers guidance and checklists outlining the elements of an effective program to protect trade secrets and critical business information.

The five-step framework was originally featured in the Whitepaper: Economic Impact of Trade Secret Theft: A Framework for Companies to Safeguard Trade Secrets and Mitigate Potential Threats, co-developed by CREATe and PwC in 2014. The framework includes identifying trade secrets, conducting a threat assessment, ranking the value of a trade secret and the economic impact of a loss of a trade secret, and steps to secure assets. Each element is discussed in-depth and a case study explores how a company could use the framework within its own organization.
The eBook also features a special section from CREATe.org outlining the management systems necessary for protecting trade secrets and other confidential information. It outlines the eight categories of an effective program:
• Policies, processes and procedures
• Information protection team
• Risk assessment
• Management of third parties
• Security and confidentiality management
• Training and capacity building
• Monitoring and measurement
• Corrective actions and improvements
For each category, the eBook offers a description of the business processes that should be in place along with a checklist of top actions a company should take to improve systems.
