Creating Art Inspires Seniors and is Therapeutic
Duxbury MA (PRWEB) October 31, 2013 -- Residents of Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group’s Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing Center displayed both their talent and love of the arts during a recent art exhibit held in their honor. Bay Path is one of seven Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers located in Boston or on the South Shore of Massachusetts. Twenty Bay Path residents took part in the Duxbury center’s Studio Art Class taught by Recreation Assistant Christine Parker.
Over the past year the group studied the works of famous artists, including post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh, among others. Art and music are considered by many researchers and memory care educators to have a positive effect on older individuals and on people in various stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Most agree that artistic and musical endeavors, at the very least, help to reduce anxiety and improve quality of life among seniors. Residents at the Welch Group nursing centers enjoy the freedom of expression the art activities provide.
The evening art show at Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, located in the seaside community of Duxbury offered the residents, some first-time artists, the opportunity to share their still lifes, textile arts and decorative arts with family and friends.
