Creative Kids Academy Opens in Orono June 1 at the Old James Hill Schoolhouse

Hill Schoolhouse in Orono. The school site has a rich history, dating back 120 years to when it was built by James J. Hill. Creative Kids Academy owners Rajiv Garg and Sangeeta Jain were inspired by the peaceful prairie setting, friendly neighborhood community and the building’s inherent charm and beauty. After sitting vacant for two years, the former school and the former site of next door’s Minnetonka Center for the Arts is now bustling with activity in anticipation of welcoming children once again into “The Old Hill School.”
Extensive care has been taken in renovating and upgrading the school, with an eye toward preserving the building’s unique historical charm. By restoring the original wood floors, the foyer staircase, library, ballroom, and the building’s trademark bell tower, Creative Kids Academy has shown that they take pride in preserving the identity of one of the Orono area’s most well-known landmarks. Contributions from local artists include hand painted murals and a stylish hand crafted entry way mirror. New kitchen, air conditioning, granite countertop, and numerous other upgrades bring the building up-to-date as a facility designed to exceed the expectations of the area’s children and families.
