Creighton Faculty and Alumni to Present at ABA Dispute Resolution Conference
Omaha, Neb. (PRWEB) March 25, 2014 -- Faculty and alumnus from the Negotiation and Dispute Resolution program at Creighton University will present at the 16th Annual Spring Conference of the American Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution. The annual conference takes place April 3-5, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Miami, FL.
The conference brings together mediators, arbitrators, attorneys, scholars and other leaders in the industry to learn about the field and from each other. As part of that goal, Creighton University faculty members and alum, who are recognized leaders in this developing field, will speak at length as part of the conference events.
Noam Ebner, Jacqueline Font-Guzman and Bernie Mayer will present “Taking Relationships Seriously.” This presentation will reveal how relationships both lie at the core of what conflict professionals deal with and are viewed as something to set aside. The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd, at 9:45am.
Noam Ebner, Profs. John Lande and Michelle LeBaron will present “You’re Shaping the Dispute Resolution Field Whether You Know it or Not.” This presentation will demonstrate how dispute resolution professionals shape the field of dispute resolution. Participants are invitedto consider the process of change and their roles in it. The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd, at 4:30pm.
Jeff Thompson, alum of the NDR program at the Werner Institute will present “Ten Mistakes Crisis Hostage Negotiators Have Made & How You Can Avoid Them.” This presentation will provide, based on research, ten mistakes crisis/hostage negotiators have made in situations and offers ways to avoid them in a manner that is directly applicable to other conflict resolution professionals, practitioners, and volunteers. The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd, at 3:00pm.
Representatives from Creighton will also be on hand as exhibitors to offer information and answer questions about the University’s acclaimed Master of Science and Graduate Certificate in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution programs, obtainable both on campus and online.
Creighton’s master’s and graduate certificate programs in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, offered through the Werner Institute housed within Creighton’s School of Law, teach students to approach conflict management and mediation from a broad perspective. The curriculum focuses on techniques for analyzing issues within conflict situations, identifying areas of shared interest and facilitating productive communication to engage in conflict more constructively. Coursework is interdisciplinary, drawing from business, organizational development, psychology, sociology and communication to prepare students for all aspects of the conflict resolution process.
