Cricket Flours Receives Kickstarter Approval to Launch World’s First Cricket Brownie Mix
PORTLAND, OREGON (PRWEB) February 01, 2016 -- New startup Cricket Flours LLC, which specializes in crafting products using sustainable protein from milled crickets, announced today that it is launching a Kickstarter campaign to launch development of the world’s first Cricket Brownie Mix. The company set out to raise $25,000 on Kickstarter for a ready-to-bake using organic gluten free flour and over 12 crickets per brownie.
“The brownies were delicious – perfect brownie texture!” says Laura Stallard.
“I wasn’t sure how the brownies would taste with 12 crickets per brownie but you really can’t taste them at all…just great tasting brownies!” says Christine Goodner.
“We were really inspired by our customers,” says Charles Wilson, the founder of http://www.cricketflours.com. "After learning how our customers were using our cricket ingredients and creating dishes to share with their friends and family, we knew we were on to something. Cricket Flours decided to craft a Cricket Brownie Mix that tastes just like a delicious fudgy brownie, but with enhanced protein from an environmentally sustainable source, the cricket.” The Cricket Brownie Mix is made with organic Peruvian cocoa powder, gluten free flours, and milled crickets. The complete mix of alternative flours and cricket powder also has less sugar, fewer calories, and twice the protein then what is found in standard brownie mixes.
The Portland, Oregon-based company was first founded in 2014 as a way to find new ingredients to solve dietary restrictions and food allergies experienced by Wilson’s family. The Kickstarter campaign will raise funds towards the cost of ingredients, packaging, and production of the new Cricket Brownie Mix to bring the product to backers of the campaign and store shelves.
Recently the United Nations and FAO published a report finding that insects are a viable solution to sustainably feed the worlds rapidly expanding population. However, there are hurdles to overcome by reintroducing edible insects to our diets. “Our key to success has always been our crafted recipes and applications,” says Wilson. “Not many people have had the opportunity to try crickets. So while we do provide base ingredients, we want people to try using crickets in new ways as a source of clean protein and nutrition. Whether that is through a new recipe or protein bar, or in our Cricket Milkshake or Cricket Brownie Mix, we want people to try crickets in order for this to become a viable solution for future generations.”
