Cross County Shopping Center Issues Call for Artists
(PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- Area residents are invited to “chalk it up” at Cross County Shopping Center’s first annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival, which is part of Cross County Shopping Center’s SummerFest events.
SummerFest includes outdoor concerts, movies, children’s entertainment and new this year, a Sidewalk Chalk competition to include local and regional artists creating art throughout Cross County Shopping Center.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, artists are invited to create temporary works of art in a chalk medium throughout the mall reflecting the competition’s theme, “Summer in the Park.” In both a Professionals and Amateurs category, four prizes will be awarded at the end of the day (People’s Choice - $150, First Place - $200, Second Place - $100, Third Place - $75).
There is no fee to participate, and materials will be provided to all artists.
“We are excited to hold our first annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition on August 10,” said Liz Pollack, Senior Marketing Manager, Cross County Shopping Center. “There is so much artistic talent in Westchester and the surrounding areas, both professional and amateur, and we look forward to seeing their creations come to life throughout the mall.”
Specifics guidelines are as follows:
•Participation is limited to the first 30 applications accepted.
•Applicants are required to sign a photography release and hold harmless agreement. A legal guardian may sign for participants under the age of 18.
•Must be 13 years or older to compete with parent or legal guardian present.
•Participants will be provided with chalk and may also bring their own supplies. Only non-oil based soft chalk or pastels in solid form may be used. (Use of acrylic paints, poster paint, liquid pastels, oil-based pastels, hard pastels, etc. is not permitted. Use of these substances is grounds for disqualification. Hairspray may be used to seal completed artwork.
•Each participant will be assigned a specific space (first come, first served); sizes will vary.
•Artists may compete as individuals or in teams.
•Artwork must be appropriate for all viewing ages and no political or commercial advertisements are permitted. A sample of work must be provided with application.
•Event organizers reserve the right to take and use photographs of art.
