Portland, OR (PRWEB) July 28, 2014 -- Liftingtheveil.org shares a statistic from a study claiming more than 28 percent of children experience abuse while in state care. This can cause lasting psychological and emotional damages.
Deloris Dallas is a survivor. After being abandoned by her parents and placed in a foster home in Jamaica at a young age, she encountered abuse and neglect. Determined to live a better life, she eventually fled her homeland to the U.S. Dallas was forced to leave everything behind including her children.
In Dallas’ memoir, “I Thought I Wouldn’t Tell It,” she shares her story of seeking a better life no matter the cost, and her struggle in bringing her children to the U.S. Dallas lives with the scars of her past but has a strong spirit.
Knowing the foster system well and the importance of supportive and stable families, Dallas opened her own foster home in 2005 that provides a safe and caring home for children.
“This book is not about sympathy,” Dallas said. “It’s about reality, no matter where you come from, struggles happen every day.”
