CSM Honored with Best Practices Award for Direct-to-Patient Clinical Trial
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) March 24, 2015 -- CSM, an industry leader in clinical trial supply services, recently received the Clinical Informatics News’ Best Practice Award in the category of “Study Startup and Design”. The winners were announced at this year’s 2015 Summit for Clinical Ops Executives, SCOPE, in Orlando. Three grand prizes were awarded, recognizing organizations’ outstanding use of information technology to improve patient services, clinical operations, and clinical trial management.
CSM’s award, in the category “Study Startup and Design,” was for designing and implementing a direct-to-patient shipping strategy that enabled a complex pediatric clinical trial. The 36 young patients, located across the U.S., were required to take doses at three specific times each day for 14 consecutive days. The challenge was that the medication had to be shipped and reconstituted daily, used within 48 hours, and maintained at 2 to 8°C at all times. Considering all of the trials challenges, the CSM team created novel solutions, which included designing a patient kit that was reconstituted daily and shipped overnight, even on weekends.
“We are truly honored by this recognition, which represents our commitment in introducing new and innovative approaches to managing the clinical supply chain,” said Bob Albanese, vice president of operations at CSM. “Part of CSM’s mission is to face these complex supply challenges head-on and effectively mold our services to meet the project-specific needs of our clients. Studies like this are paving the way, making clinical trials that were once impossible, now possible.”
Judges, including industry experts and members of the Clinical Informatics News editorial staff, reviewed many deserving entries, considering factors like industry impact, innovative use of technology, and effort to tackle areas with large unmet need for new solutions. Said Proffitt, “This year’s entries represented some of the vendor tools and customer partnerships in clinical operations. The awards program once again highlighted the innovative ways that companies are addressing the pain points in clinical trials.”
The winners were announced during the final plenary panel at SCOPE in an awards presentation hosted by Allison Proffitt, editor of Clinical Informatics News.
