CSU Dominguez Hills First Campus to Utilize SmartCSM Software
TORRANCE, Calif. (PRWEB) March 13, 2018 -- Cal State University Dominguez Hills, an energy pioneer in the Cal State System, is the first to embrace SmartCSM's groundbreaking digital as-build technology. CSUDH and the university’s Energy Manager, Kenneth Seeton, are focused on reducing energy throughout the campus. Accomplishing this goal includes deploying software like SmartCSM, which will save the university time and money and also provides a way for their field techs to instantly access critical data from anywhere – making the job safer, faster, and more efficient.
Kenneth Seeton, the CSUDH Manager Central Plant/Energy Manager, is working to transition the campus from paper to digital management of their infrastructure. SmartCSM has proved to be an integral asset in mapping and managing the campus’ entire electrical infrastructure: "I want to be able to digitally open up our Single Line and see the path that the energy takes and then be able to open up electrical rooms, see inside of panels, find disconnect switches, and get access to all of the documentation related to that energy trail. SmartCSM gives me all of that and so much more,” Seeton said.
What CSUDH needed was a way to visually understand the school’s electrical flow, from the main distribution all the way down to the electrical panels in the various parking lots. CSUDH already has a paper single line, but SmartCSM provided Seeton with a digital as-build of the entire Single Line from his tablet. This allowed him to tap into the Main Distribution Switchgear and see where that is fed to – the Central Plant Puffer Switches. He can then, for instance, click into a substation to find the disconnect switch that leads to Student Housing (or any other location where there is an electrical issue). In this way, SmartCSM has engineered a completely new way to visualize the internal machinations of large commercial facilities.
Seeton added: “With SmartCSM, I have the ability to pull up any part of the single line that's been onboarded; I can look around the rooms, identify different pieces of equipment, open their icons up, and travel throughout my single line – all right from my tablet or phone.”
The CEO of SmartCSM says “this software is the future of electrical infrastructure data. The Facility Manager can deal with an emergency from their home when the call comes in at 2AM on a holiday weekend. He can pull up the date, send you a PDF of the as-build, mark where a disconnect switch is, and save the day from the comfort of his own bed. He can almost see the work being performed in real time, and as a result can make the contractors and employees more efficient and more accountable for the work being done."
