CSU-Global Speaks at the 95th American Association of Community Colleges Conference
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) April 23, 2015 -- Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSUGlobal.edu) is proud to have had the opportunity to present at the American Association of Community Colleges Conference on April 19, 2015 with partners from Colorado community colleges. The presentation focused on the institutions’ CO-PALS (Colorado Policy, Analytics, and Learning at Scale) project designed to enable students who earn associate’s degrees in traditionally non-academic fields to use those credits toward their bachelor’s degrees.
“For many community college students, particularly those with an associate of applied science degree, getting a bachelor’s usually means losing some of the credits they’ve previously earned,” says CSU-Global Campus Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Jon Bellum. “Through this partnership, we are able to assist these students in transferring seamlessly into CSU-Global, accepting the majority of their credits and making it easier for them to continue their education and finish their bachelor’s faster and for less.”
The CO-PALS project assists Colorado community college students to transition into a bachelor’s degree program by creating a comprehensive student support system at both schools. The presentation at AACC focused on results among at-risk, low income, first generation, and minority students and how other institutions might collaborate through similar partnerships in order to utilize this model. CSU-Global has also established a number of specific program-to-program articulations with each of the Colorado community colleges and its other affiliate two-year colleges around the U.S.
“This partnership is a model we believe can benefit students, community colleges, and universities across the country,” continued Dr. Bellum. “We have seen an increase in students with applied associate degrees who normally wouldn’t pursue more education. The long-term earning potential for those students not only increases but also has a positive economic impact on the community.”
