Culhane Meadows Expands Insurance-Linked Securities Practice, James W. Maxson Joins as Partner
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 19, 2015 -- Culhane Meadows PLLC announced the addition of partner James W. Maxson to its Atlanta office as a member of the firm’s Corporate & Business Services practice group. Mr. Maxson focuses his practice on insurance-linked securities, mergers and acquisitions, private placements, general corporate matters, insurance regulatory issues and life settlements.
“Jim is one of the country’s most respected insurance regulatory and life settlement lawyers and we are very excited that he chose to bring his practice to Culhane Meadows,” said Heather Haughian, managing partner of the firm’s Atlanta office. “His experience already makes him the go-to lawyer in his field and his practical approach to solving legal and business challenges is a perfect fit for our firm.”
Immediately prior to joining Culhane Meadows, Mr. Maxson was co-chair of the Insurance-Linked Securities Group at the Atlanta-based law firm of Morris Manning & Martin, LLP. Before that, he served as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Acting Chief Operating Officer of Habersham Funding, LLC, a leading life settlement provider company, where he was responsible for all compliance and legal matters, including interpretation of legislative and regulatory requirements and compliance with securities laws.
Mr. Maxson spent the early part of his career at the international law firm Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, LLP where he practiced in the areas of securities and mergers and acquisitions. He also worked as in-house counsel for Delta Air Lines’ international group and clerked for the Honorable Alice M. Batchelder on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Maxson graduated with honors from Ohio State University College of Law and received his B.A. at Denison University. Mr. Maxson currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) and on the Executive Committee of the European Life Settlement Association (ELSA). He was recently named among the “Most Influential People” by the Life Settlement Review.
“Culhane Meadows’ innovative business model is a win-win for our clients and the firm,” says Mr. Maxson, referring to the firm’s approach for delivering superior client value through lean staffing of only partner-level lawyers and no inexperienced associates. “It is a privilege to be part of such an exceptional team that is driving important change in the legal services marketplace.”
Continuing his long history of speaking engagements, Mr. Maxson will present on the topic of How the Life Settlements Statutory Scheme Provides Investors Protection at the Fifth Institutional Investor Life Settlement Conference in New York City on February 23, 2015; and, he will also be participating in a panel entitled The New Life Settlement Market: How Advisors and Their Clients Can Benefit at the Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association’s 2015 Spring Symposium in New Orleans on March 22.
In addition to Atlanta, Culhane Meadows has offices in Austin, Chicago, Dallas, New York and Washington, DC. The firm focuses on business clients who enjoy exceptional and highly-efficient legal services provided exclusively by partner-level attorneys with significant experience and training from large law firms or in-house legal departments of respected corporations.
