Cultural Vistas to Administer U.S.-U.K. Teacher Classroom Experience Program
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 04, 2014 -- Cultural Vistas is delighted to welcome nine accomplished teachers from across the United Kingdom to the United States for the U.S/U.K. Teacher Classroom Experience program, a two-week exchange program encompassing current issues in education policy and future potential for collaboration between nations.
The short-term exchange, sponsored by the Embassy of the United States in London and administered by Cultural Vistas, begins in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 5, where the participants will receive an overview of federal education initiatives.
The teachers will then travel to Sacramento, Calif., to learn more about education on the state level.
In each city they will visit various relevant organizations – including the U.S. Department of Education, Achieve, the National Association of Independent Schools, the California Department of Education, Fuel Education, and Rio Americano High School – to meet with counterparts and explore various perspectives to better understand current issues in American education and how education policy is formed, debated, and implemented in schools.
At the conclusion of these visits, the teachers will go on to take part in shadowing experiences in nine K-12 schools in seven different states across the country, gaining a glimpse into the American classroom and broadening their skills through exchange of best practices.
They will also have the chance to explore opportunities for virtual collaboration between schools in both countries, as well as the potential for future teacher exchanges.
The national program itinerary was designed to accomplish the following objectives:
- Meet with policymakers, teachers and educational associations to better understand current issues in American education (from the federal, state and local perspective);
- Broaden their skills in virtual delivery through a combination of meetings and virtual exercises that exchange best practices;
- Explore ways in which schools in the United States and the United Kingdom can collaborate to deliver content virtually, with the potential to consider future physical exchanges of teachers; and
- Create a plan of action for development of “U.S./U.K. policy discussions” among teachers and students in both nations.
The program will be led by Dan Ewert, Cultural Vistas’ Vice President of Program Research, Partnerships & Innovation.
