Curious About Antiques in the Attic? Find Out More When Bonhams' Appraisers Come to Yountville for ‘Napa Valley Treasures’
(PRWEB) February 16, 2015 -- Based on last year’s success, the Town of Yountville is partnering again with Bonhams Auctioneers & Appraisers for a fundraising appraisal clinic on Friday, March 6. The event, ‘Napa Valley Treasures,’ has been renamed from ‘Yountville Treasures’ to reflect broader geographic appeal and to reaffirm that those beyond the town are welcome. In addition, a new special event on Saturday, March 7 – “Conversations on Art + Wine” – has been added for those interested in art, wine and auctions who would like to learn more and taste wine in the inviting setting of Ma(i)sonry Napa Valley in Yountville. Both events are being held to benefit the nonprofit Friends of the Yountville Library.
-- NAPA VALLEY TREASURES APPRAISAL CLINIC, FRIDAY, MARCH 6 --
Last year’s appraisal clinic was attended by several hundred people. Because of its popularity, Bonhams, one of the oldest and largest auction houses in the world, is returning to Napa Valley to answer questions on art, antiques and auctions. The Friday event is a great opportunity to find out about intriguing items found at a flea market or garage sale, or antiques handed down through the generations. Specialists in personal property from Bonhams’ San Francisco office will be on hand to provide information and verbal auction estimates on items such as art, antiques, furniture, jewelry, books, wine and more.
All are invited to come find out what treasures they possess. For $20, participants from Yountville, Napa, St. Helena, Calistoga, American Canyon and beyond may bring up to five items to be evaluated. Spectators are welcome as well; a donation of $10 is appreciated. All proceeds from the fundraiser go to the Friends of the Yountville Library. The event will be held on Friday, March 6, from 10 am–12 pm and 12:30–2:30 pm in the Yountville Community Center at 6516 Washington Street in Yountville; attendees can bring their items when they prefer during those hours. For more information or to pre-register for a specific time slot, please call 707-944-8712 or visit online at: http://www.townofyountville.com/treasures.
The ‘Napa Valley Treasures’ format will be similar to that made popular on antiques appraisal TV shows. At the lively event, Bonhams appraisers from various collecting areas provide participants with verbal auction market values of their property. Participants have an option to consign and sell at auction if their items meet Bonhams’ consignment requirements. At this event, Bonhams appraisers will conduct verbal auction appraisals in the specializations of Fine and Contemporary Art, Furniture & Decorative Arts, Books & Manuscripts, Asian Works of Art, Native American Art, and Jewelry. A member of Bonhams’ Fine Wine department will also be available to meet with collectors and sellers.* (Note that appraisers may not be able to provide evaluations during the event for some items such as watches, antiquities [ancient Greek, Roman or Egyptian], musical instruments, entertainment memorabilia, African or Oceanic artifacts, natural history, coins, stamps or sports memorabilia. However, Bonhams representatives will be onsite during the event to speak further with attendees about their items.)
-- NAPA VALLEY TREASURES: CONVERSATIONS ON ART + WINE, SATURDAY, MARCH 7 --
This new ‘Napa Valley Treasures’ event for 2015 was created for those interested in art, wine and auctions who wish to learn more from visiting experts. The event will be held from 11 am–1 pm on Saturday, March 7, at the historic stone building of Ma(i)sonry Napa Valley – an art, design and collective wine-tasting gallery among an outdoor sculpture garden. Named ‘Conversations on Art + Wine,’ the special event and wine tasting features guest speakers from Bonhams who will discuss, then answer questions about their areas of expertise. Sarah Nelson, Director, San Francisco, of Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary Art; and Doug Davidson, Fine & Rare Wine Specialist, will discuss topics such as recent auction highlights, trends, and collecting tips. Another featured event speaker will be Mikael Tigrett, Director of Ma(i)sonry, who will describe the gallery’s lifestyle experience and its wines, including the selections poured at the tasting event: 2013 Ma(i)sonry Los Carneros Sans Chêne Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Blackbird Vineyards Arriviste Rosé and 2012 Blackbird Vineyards Arise.
Ma(i)sonry is located at 6711 Washington Street in Yountville. ‘Conversations on Art + Wine’ will be held indoors and/or outdoors, depending on the weather. Tickets are priced at $60 per person, which includes wine tasting and light appetizers.
