Current Situation of Abrasive Belts Grinding & Major Application
Zhengzhou, China (PRWEB) November 12, 2014 -- With the continuous development of modern machining and the emergence of all types of new materials as well as the rising demand for machining precision and surface roughness, corresponding advanced grinding techniques and abrasives products, especially coated abrasives, are developing towards higher efficiency, longer service life, and super precision. Abrasive belt grinding techniques have stepped into an era of modernized development. Industrial developed countries in Europe and America attach great importance to the R&D and application of grinding techniques. While the abrasive belts' working life has been improved, the application fields are expanding: abrasives belts can be used in wet grinding, dry grinding, high-speed grinding, and high precision parts polishing. The powerful, high-speed, high-efficient, and precision abrasive belts are not limited to high-technique coated abrasives products, but more of products with high added value. The quality and standard of abrasive belts is a symbol of a nation's comprehensive level of coated abrasives and can bring high economic benefits.
Current Situation of Abrasives Belts
The global developing trend of abrasive belts is rapid. Since 1960s, the development of electrostatic abrasive grain dispensing and coated abrasives technologies have helped industries developed countries, such as some European countries, America, and Japan, made huge achievements. With the emergence of special coated abrasives (ceramic abrasives, abrasive compound, grouped abrasives, etc), all types of abrasive belts made of diamond, CBN, zirconia alumina, ceramic abrasives, abrasive compound, and grouped abrasives sprang up. Diamond abrasive belts developed by Japan are effective in processing some materials of high hardness, such as monocrystalline silicon wafer. Internationally known brands of abrasive belts include 3M, Norton, Hermes, VSM, Klingspor, DEER, etc. Abrasive belt grinders exist in various forms. With the development of automation technology, CNC abrasive belt grinder and robot abrasive belt grinding center have been applied.
As a type of elastic grinding, abrasive belt grinding is a compound technique that has the functions of grinding, lapping, and polishing. Since the abrasive grains on abrasive belts have a more powerful grinding force than the grinding wheels, the grinding efficiency is extremely high in three aspects: removal rate, grinding ratio, and abrasive belt machine tool power availability. Abrasive high-rate grinding has been applied in foreign countries to achieve high removal rate of metal. So far, the known abrasive belt removal rate of steel has exceeded 700cm3/cm•s. Abrasive belt grinding ratio is far beyond the grinding wheels, and abrasive belt machine tool power availability reached 80% early in the preliminary period. The figure is as high as 96% currently. Therefore, abrasive belt grinding technique has become an important approach for industrial developed countries to gain high economic benefits.
Use of Abrasive Belt Grinding
Abrasive belt grinding has formed a complete and systematic processing technique after three decades' development. It is popular among users thanks to its high grinding efficiency, wide application fields, strong adaptability, low costs, and easy-to-handle characteristics. In foreign countries, abrasive belts are capable of processing all kinds of engineering materials. Elastic and high efficiency cold cutting abrasive belts have been widely used in large flat thick and thin sheet materials, metal and nonmetal workpieces, complex workpiece forming grinding and polishing, metal tube cylindrical grinding and internal grinding, etc. Dry grinding disc can replace polishing wheels in polishing process and be used in chip removing and rust removing of large boxes, ships, and bridges.
