NEW YORK, May 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Custom exhibit booths designer, Gilbert, explains the ins and outs of using hashtags to build brand awareness at trade shows and other live events.

There are two main reasons why you want to use a custom hashtag in connection with your event. First, a custom hashtag basically creates a conversation string for the event which enables attendees to converse with the larger group from their phones or laptops. Second, a custom hashtag makes it easier for people to find pictures of the event and join or access attendees' interactions.

When using custom hashtags at your event, follow these best practices to maximize brand awareness:

  •      Hashtag creation dos and don'ts.  Create a unique hashtag that is easily connected back to your event and keep it short. You want it to be easy for others to associate your hashtag with your event as this is exactly how brand awareness is built. Plus, a hashtag that's obviously connected to your event is easier to find, and because it's easy to find it will help expanded your reach.
  •      Before the event: Use your hashtag before your event. Promote your hashtag on all your social media accounts and add your hashtag to your event registration page. Ask attendees to follow your hashtag when they register. Start keeping track of how often your hashtag is used. Thank people for using it and encourage additional use by promoting it yourself everywhere you can.
  •      During the event: The very first item of business is to create a conversation and project it on a large screen at the event. Attendees will be able to see a conversation in real time and will be tempted to join the fun by adding their commentary. Make sure attendees know how to join the conversation by posting instructions on how to access the conversation. Also, make the hashtag visible for all to see. Designate a person to respond to attendee input as they participate in the conversation.
  •      After the event: Continue to use your hashtag. Now that people know about it, you've built some brand awareness. Capitalize on that and strengthen your brand with continued use of your hashtag.
