Décorview Announces Spring 2015 Drapery Trends

Bold Prints and Natural Fibers
Bold prints are making big design impacts in custom drapery, with geometric shapes and ethnic patterns like Ikat continuing as favorites. Florals have staged a comeback, but not the chintz pattern popular in the 90’s. Updated floral patterns feature ethereal watercolor flowers or strong graphic blooms. These look best fabricated into draperies or roman shades and can take the role of wall art. For the more neutral design scheme, combining natural fibers like linen and bamboo with unstructured florals will add rich texture to window treatments.
Simple Cornice Boards
Decorative cornice boards are experiencing a resurgence in interior design. Simple shapes, finishes and understated fabric choices will keep this decorative feature on trend.
Extra Long Panels
Drapery panel lengths are breaking with tradition and going beyond the slight break to a relaxed and effortless “puddle” on the floor. This trend is ideal for decorating schemes that are high drama or whimsical, where rule breaking is encouraged.
Gold-Toned Hardware
Drapery hardware in warm metal finishes, like gold, bronze, copper and rose gold, are gaining traction over silver-toned rods and finials. These metals add a luxurious quality to window treatments and coordinate well with a wide range of fabrics.
Subtle Embellishments
Subtle embellishments like decorative tape and contrast banding on drapery panels or nailhead trim on cornice boards add visual interest, while maintaining the streamlined design style that is popular this spring. The key is to pair these accoutrements with understated drapery panels in solid colors or subtle patterns.
Layering
Dressing windows in more than one layer increases energy efficiency, privacy and light filtering, while at the same time adding more visual interest to windows and overall décor. Drapery pairs especially well with blinds and shades, and designers are advised to choose colors and textures that compliment, not compete with each other.
