DabKick Survey: 28 Percent of Americans Wish They Could Spend the Holidays with Their Families—in VR
CUPERTINO, Calif (PRWEB) December 20, 2016 -- DabKick, a free mobile communications app that allows people to interact live with friends while watching videos, showing photos and listening to music together, today released the results of a recent survey which revealed that 28 percent of Americans would love to spend the holidays with their families in virtual reality (VR) and that video sharing will be popular this holiday season—especially as a means of keeping in touch with friends and family.
The survey was conducted online by Propeller Insights on behalf of DabKick in November 2016 and fielded among 1,001 adults.
I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in VR
Seventy-seven percent of Americans are interested in spending time with their families in virtual reality. Forty-two percent say they’d love to hang out with the family in VR when travel is too expensive to visit in person, 28 percent say they’d check in via VR when they are stuck working late at the office, and 24 percent would love to have family game night in VR.
Twenty-eight percent wish they could spend the holidays with their families in VR.
What other VR applications pique Americans’ interest? Eighty-seven percent of Americans agree there are benefits to watching a sporting event in VR instead of going to the sports bar. According to those surveyed, top benefits include: avoiding crowds (57 percent), cheaper drinks (41 percent) and easy access to the bathroom (39 percent).
Americans would also be game to pop on a VR headset and join friends in VR to watch a movie (46 percent), visit a theme park (36 percent), attend live performances (35 percent) and listen to a band (33 percent).
‘Tis the season for video sharing?
According to the survey, 100 percent of Americans plan to share videos—via social networking or text message—over the holidays.
Why will Americans be sharing all of these videos over the holidays?
● To keep in touch with friends and family – 78 percent
● To entertain themselves when the holidays get boring – 69 percent
● To watch favorite holiday movies online with friends and family – 68 percent
● To watch product reviews to find the best products – 49 percent
● To find people with similar interests – 26 percent
As for when all this video sharing will happen, Americans say it will happen while relaxing after the big holiday dinner (78 percent), over drinks with friends (50 percent) and at holiday parties (49 percent). Thirty-seven percent plan to share videos over family dinner itself, 36 percent will turn to videos while waiting in line holiday shopping, and 35 percent will share videos to stave off the boredom of holiday travel.

Video sharing in the New Year
Three-fourths of Americans say they plan to use video sharing to achieve their New Year’s resolutions. Thirty-eight percent will do this by posting videos of themselves achieving their goals to keep themselves accountable, 36 percent will share videos to help keep their friends on track, and 35 percent will subscribe to fitness video channels to stay motivated.
Eighty-eight percent of Americans expect video sharing to change in 2017. Fifty-eight percent expect better integration between social networks and video sharing, 57 percent expect more content to become available for video sharing, and 35 percent look forward to “video share and chill” with long-distance friends. An additional 29 percent look forward to sharing videos in VR.
