Daily Pnut Wins Coveted Spot in Techstars Boston
Boston, Ma (PRWEB) February 24, 2016 -- Daily Pnut, the email newsletter that delivers a daily dose of important world events with a sprinkle of satire to tens of thousands of subscribers around the world, has announced that it has been selected as one of the 14 startups that will be in the Techstars Boston class of 2016.
Known for producing some of the best funded classes across all of Techstars’ programs, this year’s Techstars Boston application process saw a record number of applicants vying to be one of the 1% that were ultimately selected to join the accelerator. Typically associated with funding technology oriented companies, Daily Pnut is the first news company to join the Techstars Boston program.
"We are super excited about having the fast-growing Daily Pnut as part of the very selective candidates accepted into our Techstars Boston Spring 2016 class,” said Eveline Buchatskiy, Director of Techstars Boston. “We love the product, have become addicted to its informative sense of humor, and are fully confident the team behind Daily Pnut has the drive and intellect to bring something refreshing to the media space."
With the selection, Techstars is committing $120,000 in funding, as well as providing Daily Pnut access to an impressive entrepreneurial ecosystem that includes mentorship from leading entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, including Brad Feld, Managing Directory of Foundry Group and Co-Founder of Techstars and Gail Goodman, CEO of Constant Contact, who will help guide Daily Pnut’s team through this next phase of growth.
“We are thrilled that the Techstars team believes in our vision to change the way millennials consume news and offered us a spot in this year’s class,” said Tewfik Cassis, Daily Pnut’s CEO. “Having the support and mentorship from people who’ve succeeded in their own entrepreneurial endeavors is invaluable. The next stage will be key to our growth as we continue to hone the Daily Pnut and make it a news organization that really speaks to our generation.”
Previously funded by European-based family office, the Brook Foundation, Daily Pnut has recently partnered with several other innovative media startups, including The Week, Slant News, Ozy, and FlockU and has future plans for expansion that include a global edition focused on subscribers living outside of the United States.
