Dale Carnegie Training Partners with Local High School to Deliver Generation.Next Program to Area Teens
Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) July 27, 2014 -- Dale Carnegie of Birmingham Alabama, in partnership with a local High School, delivered their Generation.Next program to a group of 68 area Freshmen as part of Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School’s work-study training program this summer. Holy Family -- a private Catholic high school that educates low-income students -- offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and a work-study program in which students work one day a week, earning enough to pay for most of their tuition.
This program was established in part to prepare students for the work-study jobs they will have in the Fall and in part to ensure that the teens leave High School with the basic tools they’ll need when entering the workforce. With the addition of the Dale Carnegie Generation.Next program, these students are finding that they’re leaving the program with much more.
Generation.Next is designed to prepare young people for the real world. It gives them the skills they need to reach their goals and live up to their full potential - at school, home, and work. Dale Carnegie Training® calls them ”skills that will last a lifetime." The course content focuses on five key areas that are critical for future success:
Building Self-confidence
Enhancing Communication Skills
Interpersonal Skill Development
Teamwork and Leadership Skills
Effective Attitude Management
Graduates of the Generation.Next program report that their new skills have made them:
Highly focused on their goals
Better decision makers when faced with difficult choices
More persuasive communicators
Better prepared when applying to college or interviewing for jobs
Able to confront problems and challenges in a more positive way
Confident to speak up in class
Dale Carnegie’s own Nancy Covert spoke recently at an auction to raise funding for the project. Her efforts resulted in enough funding to put seventy ninth graders through the program. Covert said of the program, which is near and dear to her heart, “What a great opportunity to make a difference! This training can literally change the course of these kids’ lives, while giving them a glimpse of something they can aspire to. These students report to a regular work place instead of the classroom on one day of each week. We focused on the fundamentals necessary for them to be successful in that environment. The Holy Family Cristo Ray students really responded to the training.”
The program was highlighted in a recent al.com article and is garnering plenty of positive attention from local corporations.
