Dale Sorensen Real Estate Marketing Assistant is a ‘Signing Santa’
Vero Beach, FL (PRWEB) December 19, 2016 -- Dale Sorensen Real Estate (DSRE) marketing assistant, and Vero Beach native, Felicia Bailey was born deaf. As a toddler, her experiences were sometimes different from those of ‘hearing’ children. One of the most significant differences were when she watched as other children sat on Santa’s lap, having warm conversations and sharing their Christmas wish list. While her mom, DSRE sales agent Jennifer Bailey, always made sure she was included in typical childhood traditions, it was up to her to interpret between Felicia and others, including Santa.
Felicia and her mother eventually started learning sign language together and while Jennifer is good at signing, Felicia has mastered the skill. Now 22 years old, Felicia lives in Clearwater and works for a company, ZVRS, that produces video phones and video services for deaf and hearing impaired people. When she heard about the company’s ‘Signing Santa’ program, which includes a booth decorated as the North Pole, Felicia immediately signed up to participate. She “listens” to children, as they describe in great detail what their fondest wishes are for Christmas. “It’s so much fun to see how excited these kids are for Christmas,” Felicia said. “They all know that Santa wants cookies and milk, and they’re all trying really hard to be on their best behavior. I’m grateful to be able to share these moments with them.”
Felicia still works part-time for Dale Sorensen Real Estate and her mom says that two jobs keeps her really busy but she was committed to doing this volunteer work. “Felicia has always been a very humble person and very grateful for all the things she has in life. This is just one way she gives back to the world around her. I’m very proud of my daughter.”
DSRE General Manager Dale Sorensen, Jr. said Felicia has worked for DSRE as a marketing assistant since her teen years. “It has been such a pleasure watching this young lady grow up. She’s worked for us and volunteered for us in the community for years, and she is still very much a part of our family here. Her participation in this project to impact children’s lives doesn’t surprise anyone that knows her.”
Felicia will continue to volunteer every Wednesday through Christmas, including December 21st, which also happens to be her 23rd birthday.
