Dallas-based Park Cities Pet Sitter is Hosting a 2-hour Seminar on “Understanding Dog Aggression” with Dog Behavior Specialist Scott Sheaffer, CDBC, CPDT-KA
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) March 20, 2015 -- Park Cities Pet Sitter is hosting a 2-hour seminar on “Understanding Dog Aggression” on Saturday, April 11th from 3pm-5pm at the Reverchon Park Recreation Center at 3505 Maple Avenue in Dallas. The featured speaker for the event is dog behavior specialist Scott Sheaffer, a certified dog behavior consultant (CDBC) and certified professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA) who has worked extensively with owners of dogs exhibiting symptoms of aggressive behavior.
Park Cities Pet Sitter President, Joette White, chose to host the seminar because she feels educating people about what certain dog behavior symptoms really mean is the first step towards making a positive improvement in the dog and owner’s lives. As a business owner of 30 staff members who work daily with dogs of a variety of temperaments, Ms. White is regularly reinforcing safe interaction practices with dogs, and promotes staff training and education of this whenever possible. “It is important that I learn as much as I can about dog behavior so that I can make the best decisions about keeping my staff safe. One thing I have learned over time is that a dog that appears to be acting ‘aggressively,’ may not be aggressive at all. His behavior could simply be an indication of overall insecurity or anxiety, and these behavior issues are something that my staff can help defuse if they have the proper knowledge and tools. We, of course, do reserve the right to decline caring for a dog if there is a safety risk to my staff. At the same time, we also want to make sure we are diagnosing the behavior we are seeing correctly, so that we can make the best recommendations to the client about how to work with them and their dog,” said Ms. White.
Dog behaviors such as growling, barking aggressively, snapping, biting or simply overreacting to people or other dogs will be addressed. Mr. Sheaffer will cover how to read dog body language so that attendees can adequately assess a situation with a new or unfamiliar dog, and keep them safe. He will also discuss best practices to use when encountering a potentially aggressive dog; while alone, or while other pets are present. Lastly, he we will provide tips that you can use to be the best dog handler that you can possibly be, so that you can be a pack leader in any situation that you may find yourself.
The “Understanding Dog Aggression” seminar is open to the general public to attend. Cost is $10 per person for those that pre-register on Park Cities Pet Sitter’s website at http://www.pcpsi.com before April 10th. Cost is $15 for those that sign up to attend the day of the seminar.
