Dallas-Fort Worth Fertility Associates and Good Start Genetics Offers a Genetic Testing Day on Aug. 21
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- Dallas-Fort Worth Fertility Associates will forecast future fertility obstacles at a genetic screening event on Thursday, Aug. 21 for women ages 18 to 44 and their partners. A simple blood test can reveal the carrier status for inheritable genetic diseases such as Tay Sachs, cystic fibrosis and spinal muscular atrophy.
“Many carriers of genetic disease have no family history and do not experience any symptoms,” says DFW Fertility Associates founding partner Dr. Samuel Chantilis. “When two unknowing carriers conceive a child, their baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having the active form of the disease, and we want to help parents mitigate that risk.”
Blood test results identify any changes, or mutations, to a person’s genes. Genes serve as instruction books for the body, and are made of DNA. Everyone benefits from genetic testing, but it’s especially helpful for couples with a family history of a genetic disease, and people from certain ethnic or geographical backgrounds.
Reserve a Place at a Genetic Screening Day
The genetic screening day takes place Thursday, Aug. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dallas location of DFW Fertility Associates (5477 Glen Lakes Drive, Suite 200 Dallas, Texas 75231). Space is limited, so email dfwfertilityscreening(at)gmail(dot)com to make a reservation.

Should one or both partners test positive for genetic disease, Good Start Genetics and DFW Fertility Associates will explain the options for conceiving a child unaffected by the gene mutation: preimplantation genetic diagnosis with IVF; donor egg or donor sperm; or adoption.
“We recommend genetic screening for all women planning to conceive,” Dr. Thomas added. “Knowing your carrier status before you conceive gives a couple time to plan and to take preventative steps to protect the next generation through assisted reproductive technologies.”
All insurance plans are accepted at the event except for Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare. A private donation provides for all costs not covered by insurance plans.
