Database Expert & Author, Michael Blaha, Scheduled to Present at Enterprise Data World
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 21, 2014 -- Michael Blaha, database expert and author, today announced his participation at Enterprise Data World 2014, Blaha will be presenting “Test Your Knowledge of the UML,” on May 1, 2014 from 8:30 – 9:15. During his presentation he will take an in-depth look at data modeling with the UML while demonstrating how the approach is tailored to each user’s business requirements.
The interactive presentation will consist of several tests with questions about UML for databases. After each test, Blaha will present answers and take questions. Attendees will have the opportunity to assess their knowledge of the UML and deepen their grasp of subtleties.
“The UML is becoming increasingly popular for data modeling,” Blaha said. “Skillful use of the UML lets you build applications faster, with fewer errors, and with greater extensibility.
The session will deliver the following benefits to participants: 1) A means to assess UML comprehension for the purpose of modeling databases, 2) Explanation of UML class modeling notation by comparison to Information Engineering, 3) Coverage of UML subtleties and, 4) Small modeling examples that will help participants in their own modeling projects.
“There are two aspects to data modeling – reaching out to the business and creating code for development,” Blaha said. “Traditional database modeling notations are great at creating code. But there needs to be more emphasis on business communication. We routinely use the UML in working with business staff and it is effective.”
Blaha continues, “We often use UML in conjunction with a conventional notation such as IE. We start with the UML to conceive the abstractions of an application and converge with customers on content and scope. Then we translate the ideas into IE and add database details. The UML is good for abstract modeling but not for database design. IE is good for database design but not for abstract modeling. The notations complement each other’s strengths and are effective to use together.
