Syracuse, New York (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- Datacom Systems (http://www.datacomsystems.com), a leading manufacturer of network taps, network packet brokers, data aggregation tools, and other network access devices, has responded to growing concerns caused by the Shellshock Bash Bug in regards to the Company’s line of network surveillance and security products.
“Based on our internal testing, no current Datacom Systems products are susceptible to this issue,” said Tim Crofton, VP of Operations for Datacom Systems. “We will keep our customers informed of any updates related to this or any future exploits.”
The Shellshock Bash Bug was first exposed in September 2014, but is believed to have been in existence for a significant period prior to its discovery. The bug, which can affect devices running on Mac OS X or Linux, lets attackers insert code that allows them to load malware onto vulnerable devices, potentially enabling access to computers, servers, and various other devices remotely. Attackers can use the bug to gain access to a system without the need for a username or password. Exploiting this bug does not require an in-depth knowledge of hacking. The number of attacks and probes per day related to the issue are estimated to exceed 1 million attempts.
A wide range of industries utilize network surveillance devices from Datacom Systems and other manufacturers to monitor, capture, and analyze data traveling through a network, between computers, servers, and data centers. These include financial institutions, telecommunications companies, educational organizations, and more. Many software developers and operating systems have provided solutions for defending against the Shellshock Bash Bug, and Datacom Systems has confirmed that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to its customers.
In addition, the Company recommends that its customers register products and maintain support contracts in order to access available firmware. Customers concerned about their network security as a result of the bug are asked to contact their Datacom Systems Account Managers or Channel Partners for questions and further support.
