Datalight Collaborates with Mentor Graphics to Provide Fault-Tolerant, High-Capacity File System for Nucleus RTOS v3.x

Reliance Nitro integrates with the Virtual File System (VFS) in Nucleus Ready Start, enabling developers to use Reliance Nitro as a completely reliable replacement for the default Nucleus FAT-compatible file system or run Reliance Nitro alongside it to provide enhanced reliability just for critical system and user data.
Devices today are storing more data and have need for large volume sizes. Reliance Nitro surpasses the Nucleus FAT file system by supporting volume sizes up to 32 TB (terabytes) which allows use of SDHC (high-capacity) and SDXC (extended capacity). Developers also have the flexibility to use sparse files or expand a file without deleting and recreating it. These features make writes faster and use disk space more efficiently.
Reliance Nitro offers POSIX-compatibility and supports standard C-libraries, giving developers a high level of configuration flexibility. Its unique tree-based metadata and extent-based architecture also provides fast file performance. A system of configurable transaction settings the company calls Dynamic Transaction Point™ technology allows developers to balance performance with the amount of user data at risk for a wide variety of different use cases. It is also capable of working with virtually any storage medium, and is highly efficient whether an OEM is designing with hardware-managed or software-managed storage media.
Reliance Nitro file system diagnostics offer full metadata and optional file data CRCs (Cyclic Redundancy Checks), which enable developers to continuously monitor data reliability in any embedded system, and provides early warning of imminent media failure to avoid data corruption. Reliance Nitro ships in ANSI C source code and includes a robust set of developer tools and complete documentation.
