Datavail Study Identifies Top Five Most Challenging Database Management Issues Facing Organizations Today

The findings are based on Datavail-commissioned research conducted by Forrester Consulting, a global research and advisory firm. According to this study, the number one challenge facing DBAs today is performance of critical applications, with data integration issues ranking second.
“Consistently, the number one challenge facing DBAs is performance, which is not surprising because they are dealing with very large and complex systems, multiple databases, and volumes of data that have grown into terabytes and petabytes of information,” said Noel Yuhanna, principal analyst, Forrester Research, Inc., in a video about the research findings. “Compound that with the fact that applications are being developed within a few weeks instead of several months, so the sheer speed and frequency with which new applications are put into production tend to degrade optimization causing all sorts of performance issues.”
According to the study, every new database deployed in an enterprise adds pressure on IT to ensure its availability, integration, security, reliability and quality. Trying to manage databases with fewer people has always been a challenge, but with databases scaling to terabytes and petabytes, these challenges have escalated.

According to Forrester’s findings, the top five most challenging database management issues today are:
1.) Delivering improved performance – 80%
2.) Data integration issues – 75%
3.) Lack of people resources – 71%
4.) Securing private data – 71%
5.) High data volume growth – 69%
