Dave Spencer, Fifth Generation Rockefeller, Supports No Labels College Program
San Francisco (PRWEB) October 06, 2015 -- Dave Spencer, founder of Practically Republican, and Executive Council Member of No Labels, is supporting No Labels’ college program to foster a new generation of political activism focused on solving problems, rather than partisan conflict. No Labels is forming chapters on college campuses around the country--120 so far--and 100 students will participate in a National Problem Solver Convention on October 11-12 in New Hampshire, with dozens of elected officials and presidential candidates in attendance.
“No Labels and Practically Republican share a commitment to rising above the destructive partisanship that is stifling progress in government,” says Spencer. “I’m supporting No Labels’ college program because engaging new voters is the quickest way to reset the political climate in our country.”
Hosted by the No Labels co-chairs and former presidential candidates Gov. Jon Huntsman and Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Problem Solver Convention will bring together 1500 No Labels members, many of whom are undeclared New Hampshire. voters, for a first-of-its-kind gathering three months before the first primary election. Students from No Labels college chapters will be on hand to launch the organization’s efforts to press the next president to commit to problem solving.
In 2015 and beyond, No Labels is focusing its energies on creating a new goal-oriented model of governance for the country. The organization is calling for the creation of a new National Strategic Agenda focused on four goals chosen with direct input from the American people.
1) Create 25 million new jobs over the next 10 years
2) Balance the federal budget by 2030
3) Secure Social Security and Medicare for another 75 years
4) Make America energy secure by 2024
No Labels’ ultimate goal is for the next president and Congress to agree to focus on at least one of these goals within the first 30 days of the next administration, and to commit to a robust bipartisan process to achieve these goals.
Spencer, a fifth generation Rockefeller and member of the Executive Committee of the California Republican Party, is a proud proponent of “Rockefeller Republicanism,” a family tradition of public service and fiscally conservative, socially open-minded politics. This kind of “practical” Republican is nearly extinct in today’s party leadership, stalling productive legislation and alienating voters--especially young voters. Practically Republican’s focus on political pragmatism aligns with No Labels’ focus on problem solving.
“Our party is on the verge of becoming irrelevant for eight more years if we don’t change it,” Spencer says. “I want our college students and other young people to experience how exciting and rewarding genuine public service and political involvement can be, and empower them to help lead the change we need.”
