David Maloney, Personal Injury Attorney, Warns that End of Summer can be the Deadliest Days for Drivers
(PRWEB) August 27, 2015 -- Labor Day indicates an end to summer, but also serves as an early precursor to the holiday stretch that brings about a series of holiday-related spikes in DUI arrests and accidents. In fact, The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) reports a higher volume of holiday travelers, including a significantly higher number of alcohol-impaired drivers, cause nearly twice the number of automotive deaths during summer months, than during the rest of the year combined.
“This time of year is especially dangerous for teen drivers,” said personal injury attorney David J. Maloney. “The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day, which is summer vacation for most students, has been called ‘The 100 Deadliest Days’ for teen drivers due to an uptick in teen drunk driving.”
However, research shows that high-visibility enforcement, such as well-publicized Labor-Day weekend DUI checkpoints, can reduce drunk-driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent. The NHTSA also wants drivers to be aware that the 2015 national drunk driving enforcement crackdown, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” goes into effect across the country from August 19 to September 7.
“Drunk driving is one of the deadliest and most often committed, yet preventable, crimes that has become a serious safety epidemic in America,” said David. “However, with drunk-driving crackdowns and checkpoints, fatalities are sure to decrease. And, of course, every holiday driver can do their part by simply not drinking and driving.”
